Majority to constitute new leadership on January 23 – Cassiel Ato Forson.

The Majority in Parliament has announced plans to reorganize and unveil its new leadership in the House on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

This decision follows calls from the Minority Caucus urging the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to formally restructure the Majority Caucus leadership to ensure smoother legislative proceedings.

The move comes after the approval of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Majority Leader, as Minister for Finance, and Governs Agbodza, the Majority Chief Whip, as Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways.

Raising concerns on the floor of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, MP for Kpandai, compared the current state of the House to “a sheep without a shepherd,” emphasizing the urgent need for defined leadership within the Majority Caucus.

“We are unclear about who is leading government business in the House. They need to clarify who is in charge because business must continue. We are here and ready to assist, but the leadership void is problematic. You can focus on your ministerial roles—Finance or Roads—but the black seat is empty. We want to support government business, but right now, we’re in disarray,” he stated.

Addressing these concerns, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson assured the House that the Majority Caucus would finalize its front bench by the next day.

“I remain the leader of the House, as I have not yet been sworn in as the Minister of Finance. By God’s grace, tomorrow, the NDC Caucus will appoint our front bench,” he confirmed.
