“Ghana Joins the World Stage in Food Sport — Meet the Nation’s First Culinary Dream Team!”

GHANA’S FIRST FOOD SPORT CLUB “THE FOOD BOWL” UNVEILS INAUGURAL COMMITTEE

“Taking our style of Food Sport into other countries is one of the key growth initiatives for our mission, which is to identify and celebrate chefs and cooks of all types, from all parts of the world.” – Mike McCloud, President and CEO of the World Food Championships (WFC)

Ranked as the third-best food festival globally, the World Food Championships (WFC) is a thrilling five-day culinary tournament, renowned for its high-energy cooking battles and global appeal. Now, Ghana is poised to join the global food sport stage with the launch of its maiden food sport club, The Food Bowl.

Backed by The High Frontier, this initiative offers a platform for Ghanaian chefs, home cooks, and regional culinary teams to participate in international culinary competitions. As part of this groundbreaking move, Ghana has been officially invited to compete in the 2025 World Food Championships, where its representatives will participate in the Dessert, Bacon, and Sandwich categories.

A New Era for Ghana’s Culinary Scene

The introduction of The Food Bowl marks a significant step in Ghana’s journey toward becoming a recognized hub for culinary excellence and competitive food sport. The club’s mission goes beyond competition—it aims to foster a strong culinary community, elevate local talent, and connect Ghana to global culinary and tourism networks.

To drive this vision forward, a 15-member committee has been formed, comprising professionals and stakeholders from the food, sports, media, and hospitality industries. The committee is led by Mr. Kenneth Annang, COO of Kenmerdes Group, who also serves as Head of Public Relations.

Committee Members Include:

Mrs. Mercy Y.A.A. Odoi and Mr. James Odoi Wilson – Okaikoi South Sub-Metro and Municipal Representatives

Mr. Francisco Cofie Apenu – Team Captain of The Food Bowl and CEO of Cake Elements

Dr. Francis Asare

Mrs. Fafali Azaglo – Selasi Farms & Groceries

Elikem Odoom – Managing Partner, The High Frontier Ghana

Chef Maame Serwaa Appiahene Gyamfi

George Addo Jnr – BBC Sports Journalist and Commentator

Mr. Daniel Neequaye Kotey (Klala) – GBC Obonu TV Host and Musician

Mr. Enoch Worlanyo (Prof. E.K. Wallace) – Media Personality

Alex Kobina Stonne and Ms. Joyce Aku Menns – Media Representatives

These individuals will focus on areas such as event coordination, education, sustainability, ethics, and safe sporting practices—forming a well-rounded approach to the development of food sport in Ghana.

Global Recognition and Strategic Partnerships

Ghana’s participation in WFC has been significantly bolstered by the efforts of Ms. Annie Hiamey, President of The High Frontier, and Mr. Enoch Worlanyo, both of whom are Ghana’s only certified international WFC judges. They were honored to serve as judges at the 2021 championship held in Dallas, Texas.

Currently, Ms. Hiamey is working to secure a National Partnership License for Ghana. This license would enable Ghana to host WFC-sanctioned qualifier events, run certified judging classes, license official merchandise, and form national culinary teams for future championships.

Positioning Ghana in the Global Food Sport Arena

With the potential to stimulate sports tourism and boost the local economy, this initiative represents a new frontier for Ghana. The vision is not only to compete internationally but to create lasting economic and cultural impact through food sport.

The High Frontier, with its global expertise in food and sports tourism, aims to extend Ghana’s cultural footprint. The organization connects brands, fans, and media through strategic partnerships and has decades of experience in fostering global collaboration and innovation.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 World Food Championships will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center in Indianapolis from October 16–19. As Ghana prepares to make its debut on this grand culinary stage, The Food Bowl stands as a symbol of national pride and a promising start for Ghana’s journey in the global food sport community.
