Construction Chamber Commits to Collaboration with Roads Minister-Designate

The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry has pledged its full cooperation in building a resilient roads sector to drive economic development.According to the Chief Executive Officer of Chamber, the Roads Minister-Designate addressed critical issues affecting the industry, particularly the challenge of unpaid debts.

The Minister-designate, Kwame Govern Agbodza when he appeared before the appointment committee of Parliament for for his vetting noted that the sector is grappling with over ₵100 billion in committed debt, which continues to hinder progress.

In an interview with Citi Business News, Emmanuel Cherry expressed optimism that the Minister-Designate’s candid approach signals a willingness to work collaboratively to resolve these challenges and ensure the sector’s growth.

He stated, “We possess the solution to the country’s infrastructure deficit. Let us come together at the negotiating table for a collective dialogue on the way forward.”

Mr. Cherry also highlighted that financial institutions providing loans to contractors do not calculate these loans using simple interest, leading to escalating debts when the government fails to fulfill its payment obligations.
